With clear-eyed prose and a sharp funny bone, James E. Clarke recounts the experiences of his service throughout the Cold War period, starting with the initial duration of building of the large American military base in Okinawa, Japan. His stories consist of strong lions with toothaches, check outs to well-known teahouses, and other unexpected occurrences behind the curtains of war.
